Browsing with Student Research Center
Student Research Center is a TexShare Database designed for 6th to 12th graders. Learn how to browse through this great resource.
Student Research Center is a database offered through the TexShare databases, and is designed especially for students in grades 6-12. It covers many of the subjects taught in school, such as English, History, and more.
At the default page, look to the left-hand side of the page and you will see the complete list of topics. Before choosing a topic, scroll down to the section that says Limit Your Results. Check the box that says Full Text. This is so that you will get back results that have the complete text of the article and not just the citation. Go back up to the list of Topics and click on one of them. The next page shows the subtopics. Choose as many or as few as you want. Then click Search at the top of the page. Above the results list, the number of results is given. Above the number of results are the types of publications found in the search. To limit the type of publication, click on the one of the icons. Your results will automatically update. Another way to narrow your results is by going to Narrow Results By on the left side of the page and clicking Subject. A drop down list appears with possible subjects to search for within your results. Click More to see a few more subjects. When you choose one, your results will automatically update.
When you find an article you want to read, click on the title. The detailed record includes the author, the publication it is from, and an abstract or introduction to the article. The full-text links are at the top of the page. Click on them to see and read the whole article. At the top of the page, you can also print the article, e-mail the article to yourself or someone else, or save the article to your computer or flash drive.
One special feature that is good to know about is the Help feature. At the very top right side of every page is the word Help. When you click on it a pop-up window appears that has many helpful tips and directions on how to search this database.
